of Deutsche Bahn, responsible for infrastructure. During his long political career - he was a member of the German Bundestag for 24 years - the trained lawyer played a key role in shaping the political fortunes of this country. He was Federal Minister
for Special Tasks and Head of the Federal Chancellery, Deputy Chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group and Secretary General of the CDU.
